Case Study: A “Faux” Economy? – Andrew Marks Furniture Services
We were intrigued to receive an enquiry in November 2022, where a potential client emailed us some photographs of a set of eight dining chairs that were sold to them as genuine leather. The customer had since discovered that this was not the case and the chairs were covered in a faux leather which had become easily damaged. It was time for a Dining Chair Upgrade!
We were able to use the customers photos to estimate the amount of fabric or leather that would be required to re-upholster these stylish and modern chairs. The client was then directed to a number of credible websites, where they could order free samples of leather and fabric, to be sent to their home. This then gave them free reign to select a suitable covering and colour for the reupholstery project.
Leather – The Client’s Choice for a Dining Chair Upgrade
Once the leather colour had been chosen, the client informed us of their preferred selection – this allowed us to confirm whether the material they had chosen would be durable enough, and suitable for the level of use it was likely to endure. We were delighted to discover they had selected a stunning duo of grey and green complimentary cool tones in a hardwearing pigmented leather from our trusted suppliers at Crest Leather. This choice was perfect for upgrading these stylish dining chairs with outstanding durability and stain resistance!
Our client agreed to commission us to complete this bespoke upholstery project, after taking into account the cost of the leather, in addition to our labour and parts estimate. They were then added to our waiting list, as we already had a few projects in the pipeline.
When the client had reached the top of the waiting list, a deposit invoice was raised. Once the invoice had been paid, we placed an order for the leather required, and confirmed a date to remove one of dining chair covers to the workshop to use as a pattern to make eight new covers.
We returned a few weeks later to fit them to the dining chairs. For a full luxury upgrade we wrapped the existing seat interiors with a High-Grade Virgin Hollowfibre to improve comfort levels.
